When Bad Things Happen To Good People

(Starts at 7:45)

Lena Waithe and Melina Matsoukas are, respectively, the writer and director of “Queen & Slim.” They open up to John Horn about how the traumatic deaths of unarmed black people by police officers shaped their movie's narrative. It stars Daniel Kaluuya from “Get Out,” and newcomer Jodie Turner-Smith. They play a black couple who are driving home from an awkward first date when a white cop pulls them over. He quickly begins harassing them, the situation escalates, and the police officer is fatally shot. What follows is their escape on the road from Ohio toward Florida.

Ben Fritz, an editor at the Wall Street Journal and the author of the book, "The Big Picture: The Fight for the Future of Movies," talks with John about his coverage of the incident and how it changed Hollywood.
