On Monday, October 7, 2019, Governor Newsom signed into law Senate Bill 464, which requires implicit bias training for medical staff providing care to mothers and newborns in delivery rooms.
It also requires the state public health department to collect stronger data on maternal mortality rates and it requires hospitals to give patients more information on how to file discrimination complaints.
The law will take effect on January 1, 2020.
