The parents of a 13-year-old boy who scuffled with an off-duty police officer who then fired a gun during the altercation have filed a lawsuit.
The scuffle and gunfire on the Anaheim front lawn of Los Angeles police Officer Kevin Ferguson last month was captured on videos that went viral, though the shot was fired into the ground and no one was hurt.
The Orange County Register reported Wednesday that the boy's parents, Alma Jimenez and John Dorscht, are suing Ferguson, alleging negligence, assault and battery, false imprisonment and excessive force.
The suit, which seeks unspecified damages, does not name either Anaheim or Los Angeles police.
Ferguson's attorney Larry Hanna has said Ferguson feared for his safety and the safety of his sick father because of the group of teens who were on his lawn.
Los Angeles and Anaheim police are investigating the confrontation.
