Hundreds of volunteers are helping Los Angeles nonprofit Big Sunday provide cards and gift bags for people who otherwise wouldn't have a Valentine to share the upcoming holiday with.
The Sunday event from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. aims to make and distribute Valentine's Day gifts to thousands of seniors, shut-ins, hospital patients and others having a tough time. The event is one of hundreds that Big Sunday organizes or participates in annually designed to "connect people through helping."
"Everybody has some way they can help somebody else," said Big Sunday executive director David Levinson. "We hate the idea that anyone is forgotten during Valentine's Day."
After gifts are assembled at the charity's Hollywood headquarters on Melrose Avenue, volunteers will enjoy a community dinner followed by bingo.
The organization has plenty of volunteers to help make the Valentines Sunday but still needs people to help distribute them on Monday and Tuesday. To get involved, visit BigSunday.org or call 323-549-9944.
