The Los Angeles City Council has asked L.A. City Attorney Mike Feuer to report on legal recourses the city may have in the wake of President Donald Trump's immigration and refugee policies. Feuer said he's already prepared with an answer.

"I'm prepared to advise the Council today," Feuer told KPCC.

Now, the council must set up a meeting to hear the city attorney's suggestions. The meeting is expected to take place within the next 10 days.

"I want to underscore the point that we have been poised to defend the city in the event of orders like this for a number of weeks now," Feuer told KPCC. "Los Angeles' central policies regarding immigration meet our obligations under federal law."

A Trump administration order earlier this week formally threatened to cut federal funding to so-called "sanctuary cities," a group that includes Los Angeles.
