A memorial for KPCC Morning Edition host Steve Julian is scheduled for May 28 at the Theatre at Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 28 at 3 p.m. Doors will open at 2:15 p.m.

For 15 years, Julian was the host of Morning Edition on KPCC, where he updated listeners every morning with the day's news, weather and traffic. He had also been a police officer in Baldwin Park and a longtime actor, director, playwright and supporter of theater in L.A.

Julian died at his home on April 24 at 57 from complications from brain cancer.

public event was created on Facebook for the memorial by Julian's widow, Felicia Friesema. She wrote about the selection of the venue and what the memorial will include in a post:

"It took a while to find the right venue, the right people, and the right date to ensure easy participation and to set the right tone. Steve's life was a brilliant, multi-colored spectrum of light. The recently restored Theater at Ace Hotel will help us remember that.

"There will be music. There will be voices of all kinds. There will be love. Come. Let's give him a farewell he can see and hear from wherever he is."

Friesema has asked for Julian to be memorialized by sending donations to the Coeurage Theatre Company, where Julian was a board member, and to KPCC.
