President Obama in LA — Here are the areas to avoid

President Obama will be in Los Angeles Thursday and Friday for campaign fundraisers, the White House has announced, but traffic tie-ups—which have come to be known as Obamajams—should be less than experienced in previous visits because he's expected to arrive and depart at off-peak traffic times.

Obama is scheduled to arrive aboard Air Force One at Los Angeles International Airport at 7:25 p.m. Thursday. He will attend a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee event Thursday evening and will stay overnight.

On Friday, the president is expected to attend a Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee event before a scheduled departure from LAX at 12:15 p.m., the White House said..

The L.A. Police Department recommended avoiding the following areas to avoid traffic during Obama's visit:

Thursday, April 7

7:15 p.m.-8:15 p.m. The area around S. Centinela Avenue between Ocean Park Boulevard & W. Pico Boulevard; The area around Sunset Boulevard between S. Sepulveda Boulevard & S. Beverly Glen Boulevard
 
7:30 p.m.-9:45 p.m. The area around St. Pierre Road and St. Cloud Road between Bel Air Road & N. Beverly Glen Boulevard 7:30p.m. – 9:45p.m.
 
9 p.m.-10:30 p.m. The area around Sunset Boulevard between S. Beverly Glen Boulevard & Royce Drive; The area around Hilgard Avenue between Sunset Boulevard & Weyburn Avenue; The area around Tiverton Avenue between Le Conte Avenue & Weyburn Avenue

Friday, April 8

9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. The area around Hilgard Avenue between Weyburn Avenue & Sunset Boulevard; The area around Sunset Boulevard between Loring Avenue west to Burlingame Avenue; The area around Bristol Avenue between Sunset Boulevard & Westboro Street

10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. The area around N. Cliffwood Avenue between Westboro Street & Highwood Street
 
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The area around Sunset Boulevard between Bristol Avenue & N. Sepulveda Boulevard; The area around S. Centinela Avenue between Ocean Park Boulevard & W. Pico Boulevard

They also announced the following hard closures, noting that bus routes would not be impacted:
 
Saint Cloud Road: Closed Thursday, 7 p.m-10 p.m.
 
Hilgard Avenue: Closed Thursday, 4 p.m-Friday, 1 p.m.
 
Malcolm Avenue: Closed Thursday, 7p.m.-Friday, 1 p.m.
 
Cliffwood Avenue: Closed Friday, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
