A construction worker fell 53 stories to his death Thursday afternoon at the Wilshire Grand construction site in downtown Los Angeles. 

Margaret Stewart, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman, said the man was pronounced deceased when authorities arrived. 

“When he fell he impacted another vehicle that was driving by,” Stewart told KPCC. “The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the crash, but requested transport to the hospital for evaluation.”

LAPD Officer Aareon Jefferson said that, at this time, the worker's fall appeared to be a "tragic workplace accident."

Los Angeles police said the block surrounding the incident at the corner of Figueroa Street and Wilshire Boulevard was blocked off to traffic, and they were investigating the incident. Other agencies investigating included the coroner's office, CAL/OSHA and the district attorney's office.
