California State Route 58 reopened Wednesday night after being closed because of a mud flow last week that trapped over 100 vehicles

Caltrans cleaned up to six feet of mud that covered the highway after a storm struck the Antelope Valley on Oct. 15, damaging areas including Quartz Hill, Leona Valley, Lake Hughes and Lake Elizabeth.

Crews on Tuesday found a 49-year-old man, Ed Winter, dead in an SUV buried in mud along a road in Palmdale. It's reported to be the first death from the storm.
