Authorities say a teacher who was found dead by high school students in an Orange County classroom committed suicide by hanging. The school closed for the day earlier this morning.

Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority says several students and a teacher discovered the female teacher hanging from the ceiling around 8:30 a.m. Monday at El Dorado High School in Placentia.

Placentia Police Lieutenant Eric Point told KPCC that school staff took the body down from the ceiling before paramedics arrived.

Responding paramedics performed CPR but were unable to revive the teacher. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Assistant Superintendent Kevin Lee with Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District says classes were dismissed for the day at 11 a.m.

Lee told KPCC that the students who found the teacher met with counselors immediately. He said that school will resume tomorrow, and that counselors will be available all week.
