A mural of late actor Anthony Quinn that's towered over downtown Los Angeles for nearly three decades is getting a makeover.

Actor Edward James Olmos and others plan to announce Wednesday morning a plan to restore the 70-foot-tall portrait.

The mural is on the side of the Victor Clothing Building, located on Broadway. It shows Quinn with his arms outstretched with crosses beneath them and is titled "The Pope of Broadway."

Time has left the mural cracked, faded and peeling. The Los Angeles Times says developer Greenland USA donated $150,000 to spruce it up.

Quinn, a Mexican-American actor, won several Academy Awards and was known for films such as "Viva Zapata!" and "Zorba the Greek." He died in 2011.
