Angelenos are pretty psyched about birds. During the most recent nationwide Great Backyard Bird Count, no county in the country submitted more checklists than L.A. County. That's why Saturday has been dubbed Bird L.A. Day. Events include birding walks and tours hosted by the Audubon Center at Debs Park. Pro tip: Share your sightings on social media using the hashtag #BirdLADay. Here's a list of the 340 species already spotted in the city.

Mike Kelley is widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of our time; he worked in every conceivable medium, including paper, sculpture, performance, music, video, photography and painting. See 250 pieces from Kelley's innovative body of dark and delirious work now at MOCA. Pro tip: At 11:30 a.m. Saturday, there will be a symposium exploring Kelley's influence in L.A. but space is limited.

Get lost inside the pages of a good book during the first statewide bookstore party. The event will be recognized at more than 90 bookstores in California.
