One suspect was killed and another injured when Gardena police fired on three men early Sunday morning.

CBS Los Angeles reports that Gardena police were responding to reports that two men had stolen a bike in the area of the 1600 block of Redondo Beach Blvd at around 2:33 a.m. Sunday.

The station reports that police stopped two men who had a bike and matched the suspects' descriptions. Another man then approached them, according to CBS:

“He started to walk towards the officers. At that point, officers believed that he was reaching for a weapon and an officer-involved shooting occurred. He was shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead here at the scene,” said Lt. Eddie Hernandez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Los Angeles Sheriffs deputies are assisting Gardena police in the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff department's homicide division at (323) 890-5500.
