Los Angeles Judge dismisses wage claims in Scientology lawsuit

A federal judge in Los Angeles has dismissed part of a lawsuit by a former Church of Scientology employee who says she is owed back wages.

Claire Headley worked in the church's elite Sea Organization and says she labored 100 hours a week for almost no pay on a gated campus southeast of Los Angeles.

The church successfully argued Headley was exempt from wage laws because she was part of a religious order.

U.S. District Judge Dale Fischer sided with Scientology in a written ruling Friday.

Headley's lawsuit will proceed on claims she was forced to have an abortion and that the church engaged in forced labor.

The church denies all allegations.

A similar lawsuit filed by Headley's husband remains intact.

A church attorney did not immediately return a call.
