The Obama Administration announced Thursday that more than $22 million will be made available to 129 health centers in California to help uninsured residents enroll in health insurance.
Those options, some of which have been made available as a result of health care reform through the Affordable Care Act, include insurance plans available through the upcoming state Marketplaces, Medi-Cal and the Children's Health Insurance Program.
Of those 129 health centers, 26 are in Los Angeles County, and six of those are in or near South L.A. They include:
- Eisner Pediatric & Family Medical Center
- South Central Family Health Center
- St. John's Well Child & Family Center
- T.H.E. Clinic, Inc.
- UMMA Community Clinic
- Watts Healthcare Corporation

The money is being issued by the Health Resources and Services Administration, and totals about $150 million nationwide. It'll fund the hiring of new staff, the training of current staff and community outreach efforts, which will aim to help people learn more about their health insurance options and eligibility, and how they can enroll.
U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius said in a statement that health centers in California provide care for more than 3.2 million people, and as such are "well-positioned to support enrollment efforts."
