The Hollywood Reporter looks at why Mayor Eric Garcetti's office allowed Live Nation's Made in America festival to come together without going through "the usual bureaucratic red tape." "Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino is a highly connected donor to national-level Democratic candidates ... And the skeptics point out that Live Nation's registered city lobbyist, Joshua Perttula, served as an adviser on Garcetti's transition team and remains close to the administration," per the Reporter.
Thousands of customers with the Department of Water and Power are still having billing problems, nearly a year after a new customer service system was installed. Rep. Darrell Issa wants Supervisor-elect Hilda Solis to testify at a Sept. 9 hearing on whether she violated the Hatch Act during her time as Labor secretary, reports CBS News. Solis is accused of asking a subordinate to donate to President Obama.
Supporters of Northern California's secession will be in Sacramento today to make their case for the state of Jefferson, reports the Sacramento Bee. "What we’re doing is forming standing for a challenge if the state ignores our demands," said Mark Baird, one of the movement's organizers.
