Headlines

KPCC looks at groups like Emily's List and Project Grow, which are helping women train for public office. "Every warm body that you come into contact with, you are building your army, and nobody escapes," according to one trainer with Emily's List.

L.A. City Councilman Mike Bonin wants LAX officials to reexamine how they communicate with passengers during emergency situations, reports the Daily Breeze. The motion is a response to Friday's fatal shooting in one of the airport's terminals. "It’s simply about looking at what happened and thinking about how we can do things better," Bonin says.

LAObserved's Mark Lacter conducts an exit interview with Geraldine Knatz, executive director of the Port of Los Angeles. Knatz was asked whether her decision to retire was truly a decision to retire -- or a directive that came from the Mayor's Office. "As soon as I got an indication that they wanted to make a change, I was cool about retiring," she says.

Los Angeles Times writer Patt Morrison talks to Carol Schatz of the Central City Association about the new downtown. Morrison asks why the woman who helped make downtown livable doesn't live downtown herself. "I give at the office — 12 hours a day, usually, and I need a space that's separate from what I work on every day," Schatz says.

Gubernatorial candidate Tim Donnelly wants California to be as sexy as his wife, per a new campaign video. The San Francisco Chronicle has other video highlights from Donnelly, including his 2007 appearance on "The Colbert Report."
