A giant red art ball is circling the globe. If this makes you think of winning $40 million, you are its target audience

Whimsically making the rounds in California is artist Kurt Perschke’s RedBall Project, a traveling sculptural installation, that serves as a towering, smooshy reminder that Powerball lottery is about to get played in the Golden State.

Since the beginning of April, the California Lottery and Perschke have been plopping down the big ball in various parts of Los Angeles; surprise appearances are also set for San Francisco. Adventures of the rolling rover will culminate with the first live Powerball draw in Sacramento on April 10.

According to the news release, sales of a $2 lottery ticket can translate into $45-50 million in supplemental funds for California public schools.

The goal of the partnership is to deliver the message of Believe in Something Bigger and bring the big red POWERBALL to life in an interactive and engaging way. The iconic RedBall Project will act as a catalyst for new encounters with the everyday and access the imagination in all of us.

Powerball launches in California April 8.

RedBall Project

Artist Kurt Perschke’s RedBall Project is a sculptural installation traveling around the globe, adopting cities as its canvas. Perschke uses RedBall to explore each city’s unique architectural landscape and history. With vision and wit, he squeezes RedBall between buildings and hoists it above bridges, punctuating overlooked possibilities. The city itself becomes a canvas of possibilities, as the work searches for new opportunities. RedBall represents the immediate creative impulse embedded in all of us – the simple act of seeing afresh.
