PREVIOUSLY: The California Highway Patrol says La Cienega Boulevard in Baldwin Hills neighborhood was shut down Tuesday night into Wednesday morning in both directions after it buckled horizontally across several lanes.

CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos tells NBC LA  that a nearly 2-mile stretch of La Cienega Boulevard has been closed in an area south of Interstate 10 about eight miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles.

By 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night, the damage stretched across at least three lanes. Crews were still working on the road early Wednesday morning and at least one lane was open. The full road is expected to open sometime during the morning commute.

It is not clear what caused the street to buckle.
