Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch has died at age 47, reports Rolling Stone.  

The co-founder of the groundbreaking hip-hop trio had been undergoing treatment for cancer. Yauch, or "MCA," was diagnosed in 2009 after a tumor was found in his salivary gland.

In April, the rapper, activist, and dreamboat sat out the band's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony, which also included Guns N' Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Donovan, and others, is set to air on HBO this weekend. 

This week in 2011, Yauch with long-time bandmates Mike Diamond "Mike D" and Adam Horowitz "Ad-Rock," released the Beastie Boys album "Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2" which debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 2.

Diamond's 17-day audio/visual art festival at MOCA's Geffen Contemporary is set to close this weekend. Calls regarding special tributes or memorials were not immediately returned.
