Police say a 13-year-old boy in Pacoima was holding a gun when it accidentally went off and shot him in the face Thursday morning, the L.A. Times reports.

“At this point, it appears to be an accidental firearms discharge,” LAPD Lt. Andy Neiman told the Times.

KTLA news reports showed the scene on the 10000 block of Telfair Avenue following the incident, with police cordoning off the area. An agitated man in handcuffs sat on the curb while another man in handcuffs was put in a patrol car.

Neither was identified, and police have not announced any arrests in the case. They are still investigating.

Strangely, the gun in the shooting was not found, according to KTLA. Two people were reportedly seen fleeing the home, located only a few blocks from Pacoima Middle School, after the gun went off.

The boy was transported to an area hospital. His condition is not immediately known.
