Los Angeles Unified Superintendent Ramon Cortines says he is looking forward to support and help from the newly re-elected state school superintendent, Tom Torlakson.

In a statement Wednesday, Cortines said he had worked with the state superintendent during his previous tenure as head of L.A. Unified, from 2009 to 2011. Cortines returned to the post on Oct. 20th after the resignation of his predecessor, John Deasy.

"Since my return, this is my 13th day, [Torlakson] has called me and he has visited a school, Carson Senior High, where he actually worked as an Office Technician for a Day on the student record system, known as My Integrated Student Information System, or MiSiS for short.  He has helped again by giving me the names of experts who can fix the system," Cortines said.

The data system has caused major problems since its summer rollout, creating class schedules that had students taking courses they had already passed, failing to accurately record student attendance and producing inaccurate transcripts for seniors applying to college.
