Three minors have accused a former Los Angeles Unified School District teacher, Armando Gonzalez, of fondling them when they were in his 2nd grade class at El Sereno Elementary School.

In a lawsuit filed Wednesday, attorney Luis Carillo seeks to prove the district did not follow proper investigation and removal protocols, and therefore was negligent in its care of children.

District officials said they've tightened response time to misconduct allegations to 72 hours. They also say administrators followed proper procedure with Gonzalez.

"As soon as we were made aware of the allegations of misconduct against Armando Gonzalez in March 2010, we immediately reported it to law enforcement and housed the teacher. Gonzalez has not been in the classroom since," a statement released Thursday reads.

Carrillo also represents children in claims of negligence against the district in the Miramonte sex abuse case.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed they received reports of abuse about Gonzalez in 2010 and then again in 2012. The department investigated both, but the first case was dropped due to insufficient evidence.

After Gonzalez was removed from the classroom, he remained on payroll for nearly two years while the district took steps to fire him. Removal proceedings finally closed earlier this month when Gonzalez opted to resign.
