L.A. Unified and the Associated Administrators of Los Angeles have reached a tentative agreement to have administrators take 10 furlough days to save the district $12 million in payroll costs, the district announced today.

The agreement must be approved by the administrators' union, whose members will be voting on it this week; the school board will also have to approve the deal. The final number of unpaid days may decrease if voters approve Gov. Jerry Brown's initiative to raise taxes in November.

“This tentative agreement, if ratified, will restore and preserve a substantial number of AALA positions,” said AALA President Judith Perez said in a statement. “I wish to thank our hardworking members for their numerous sacrifices during the severe financial crisis of the past three years."

The agreement mirrors two others that have been approved with the classified workers' union and the teachers' union.

The district is facing a $390 million shortfall that has forced it to cut many programs in its budget plan and send preliminary pink slips to thousands of educators.
