Here are some specific numbers for those interested in the more nitty gritty regarding the LAUSD adult education program, which students are rallying today to protect from the chopping block. The numbers come from the district.
In all there are 35 adult education centers in LAUSD. These include 24 community adult schools, six regional occupational centers, and five skills centers. These centers also provide services such as job and skills training.
The budget for adult education is more than $230 million. The total budget shortfall the district faces for next year at this point is $543 million. There is a possibility this number could rise, depending on what happens with Gov. Jerry Brown's proposed budget and whether initiatives to raise taxes are passed by voters in November.
