Pasadena, Calif., February 23, 2021 — LAist Studios, Southern California Public Radio’s (SCPR) podcast development and production studio, today announced “Yeah No, I’m Not Ok,” a new weekly podcast hosted by actress Diane Guerrero premiering on Monday, March 1, 2021. Diane welcomes friends, colleagues, activists, artists, and health care professionals to untangle the complex narrative of often-undiscussed mental health issues young people all around the world are experiencing.

A trailer for “Yeah No, I’m Not Ok” is available on LAist.com, and listeners can subscribe to the series now on Apple Podcasts, NPR One, and wherever podcasts are available.

“Growing up, mental health wasn’t something we discussed. Not in my family, nor among my community. I was taught to say I was ‘ok’ even though, most times, it wasn’t true. Today, young people of color are disproportionately affected by mental health issues, yet, facing this truth and seeking help still carries a stigma,” said Diane. “When individuals are empowered to speak out with radical honesty about the struggles they’re working to overcome, I believe it can create a movement, a mental health revolution. With ‘Yeah No, I’m Not Ok’ I hope to build a space where listeners can feel less alone with their complicated feelings, and maybe take the first step toward healing.”

Remarked Herb Scannell, President and Chief Executive Officer of SCPR: “Diane is a one-of-a-kind talent and her long-standing commitment to speaking out about important issues is commendable. Working with Diane to launch ‘Yeah No, I’m Not Ok’ as an extension of her work was a no-brainer and fits within our commitment to serve the content needs of young and diverse audiences. We are proud to be able to partner with her to help foster such an important conversation as mental health among young people in America is worsening at a significant rate.”

As an outspoken advocate for mental health, Diane has been open about the impact of past trauma she’s experienced. She kicks off the podcast by welcoming her brother, Eddie, to discuss their relationship to these issues. Upcoming guests include Karla Cornejo Villavicencio, Demi Lovato, Eric Andre, Janaya Future Khan, Dascha Polanco and Residente from Calle 13, tackling topics that range from depression, addiction, anxiety, and suicide, to body positivity, radical self love, and much more as a means to help others feel less alone and empowered to take the first step in seeking resources and support.

Diane is known for her standout role of “Crazy Jane” on HBO Max’s hit DC Universe series “Doom Patrol.” She previously starred on Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black,” CW’s “Jane The Virgin,” and CBS’s “Superior Donuts.” She was included on Variety’s “10 Latino to Watch” list; has won the Lupe Ontiveros Indomitable Spirit Award by the National Hispanic Media Coalition; and was nominated for an Imagen Award. In addition to her work focused on mental health, Diane is an advocate for immigration issues and has published books on these topics.

“Yeah No, I’m Not Ok” is produced by LAist Studios. Diane Guerrero serves as host and executive producer, and additional producers include Jessica Alpert, John Perotti, and Andrea Asuaje. Jessica Pilot is an associate producer and talent manager for the show. The show is made possible by support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Angell Foundation and the California Health Care Foundation.
